Spanish Gambling Earnings Surge in Second Quarter

Spanish gambling earnings surged by 55.1% annually in the second quarter, reaching €312.6 million.

This signifies a 55.1% rise compared to the same period in the previous year and a 2.5% increase from the €313.3 million recorded in the initial quarter. The data was disclosed by the Spanish regulatory body, the General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ).

Casinos generated the most overall gambling revenue in the second quarter – €149.9 million, up 27.9% annually and 4.5% higher than the first quarter.

Slot machine earnings increased by 29.9% annually, while live roulette gambling earnings grew by 8.9%.

Spanish sports betting earnings soared in the second quarter, with the sports betting sector reporting the largest percentage increase during the period. Total gambling revenue reached €133.3 million in the three months, a 118.9% jump from the same period in the previous year.

Pre-match sports betting revenue was 1.8% higher than in the second quarter, and live betting revenue also increased by 3.5%. Horse racing betting grew by 22.7%, but other sports betting revenue declined by 15.1%.

Moreover, poker gambling revenue was 27.6% higher than the same period in the previous year, reaching €25.8 million, but this figure was 5.8% lower than the first quarter. Tournament poker gambling revenue increased by 38.1% compared to the second quarter of 2022, and cash poker gambling revenue also rose slightly, increasing by 4.9%.

Bingo gambling revenue was €3.5 million, up 5.5% annually and also higher than the 5.

During the second trimester, the Spanish gaming industry saw a 5% rise.

In conclusion, the total earnings from contests reached €140,000, marking a 1,464.9% increase compared to the same period in 2022, but a 41.5% decrease compared to the second quarter.

Player deposits saw a near 20% increase in the second quarter. The Spanish gambling regulatory body, DGOJ, reported that player deposits rose by 19.6% year-over-year, but fell by 2.0% compared to the first quarter. Withdrawals climbed by 3.0% compared to 2022, but dipped by 2.3% compared to the first quarter.

Total marketing expenditures by licensed gambling operators in Spain reached €96.6 million, a 3.0% year-over-year increase. Advertising spending rose by 7.7% compared to last year, affiliate marketing spending climbed by 56.2%, sponsorship spending surged by 225.2%, but promotional spending dipped by 1.7%.

The average number of monthly active gaming accounts increased by 11.4% compared to last year, reaching 1,134,993. However, the average number of monthly new accounts dropped by 3.0% to 102,804 users.

Furthermore, the DGOJ released the latest overview of the number of active licensed gambling operators in the Spanish market. During the second quarter, there were 78 licensed gambling operators offering various gambling services in the Spanish market.

Of these licensed operators, 43 offer sports betting, 50 offer casino games, 9 offer poker games, 3 offer bingo games, and 2 offer competition games.
